AI campaign deepfakes are starting to draw legal threats

Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) received a cease-and-desist letter from attorneys for his Democratic opponent Rebecca Cooke over AI-generated videos falsely attributing statements to her. The letter cited an August X post showing a fake Cooke advocating corruption and free healthcare for illegal aliens. Van Orden responded with a video of a duck in a DSA shirt yelling 'cease and desist.'
