US Consumer Spending Jumps by Most in a Year

US consumer spending rose in August at the fastest pace in over a year, with inflation-adjusted personal spending climbing 0.6% from the previous month, the biggest jump since March 2025, according to Bureau of Economic Analysis data. Eric Winograd, Chief Economist at AllianceBernstein, reacted to the PCE data, noting the spending helped power the economy through persistent inflation.
