AI is lowering the barrier for state-backed hackers looking to disrupt or manipulate water systems, power plants, and other critical infrastructure. A recent wave of cyberattacks targeted U.S. water systems and a British power plant, with Iran-backed hackers linked to a four-day shutdown. U.S. officials warned hackers used an AI-generated exploitation script, and Nozomi Networks' Markus Mueller has medium confidence the attacks are linked to the same threat actor.
