Syrian court sentences Assad to death in absentia

A Syrian court on Tuesday sentenced ousted former President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia after it convicted him on counts of murder, torture and crimes against humanity before and after the country's civil war. The sentencing by the Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus is the first against al-Assad since the dictator was overthrown.
