U.S. officials defend deal with controversial Venezuelan oil baron

U.S. officials defended their partnership with Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt, whose company NABEP will give the U.S. preferential access to oil from 17 major fields. The Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital takes a 35% equity stake, and the U.S. can buy 20% of oil at cost after taxes.
