Homicides fall 17% in big U.S. cities as the post-pandemic crime decline continues

Homicides fell 17.2% in 66 large U.S. cities during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to Major Cities Chiefs Association data. Robberies dropped 16.6%, rapes 6.2%, and aggravated assaults 5.7%. The decline continues a post-pandemic trend spanning both the Biden and Trump presidencies.
