A federal judge on Friday blocked the Justice Department's nationwide effort to collect voter registration records and identify suspected non-U.S. citizens, ruling the program exceeded legal authority and violated federal privacy laws. U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan in Washington barred the Trump administration from continuing the initiative, even in states that had voluntarily cooperated.
