Shielded Bitcoin Proposal Aims to Bring Privacy to Bitcoin L1

A New York cryptography lab proposed Shielded Bitcoin, bringing Zcash-style private transfers to Bitcoin's base layer without a soft fork or separate blockchain. Bitcoin would store encrypted data, with outside software verifying transactions. This could enhance privacy on Bitcoin L1, hiding amounts and counterparties while maintaining the network's core structure.
