Tether opts out of EU stablecoin regulation’s license over 60% bank rule

Tether declined to apply for a license under the EU's MiCA stablecoin framework due to a rule requiring major stablecoin issuers to hold 60% of reserves in bank deposits. CEO Paolo Ardoino cited this requirement as the reason for the decision.
