Illinois’ 0.2% Crypto Tax Sparks a Full-Blown Courtroom War

The Blockchain Association and Crypto Council for Innovation filed a lawsuit on Aug. 21 in Sangamon County Circuit Court against the Illinois Department of Revenue over a first-in-the-nation 0.2% tax on digital asset trades, transfers, and storage, effective Jan. 1, 2027. The groups argue the tax could harm the crypto industry in Illinois.
