Raman ousts Bass in LA mayor race for historic socialist win

Democratic socialist Nithya Raman ousted Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in a stunning upset, with the Associated Press calling the race Thursday. Unofficial results showed Raman leading 52.1% to 47.9%. Raman, 45, immigrated from India as a child. Her win, alongside New York's Zohran Mamdani, puts democratic socialists in charge of America's two largest cities.
