Digital euro: ECB Opens Applications for European Merchants

The European Central Bank opened applications for merchants to test the digital euro starting September 15. The pilot begins in the second half of 2027 and lasts 12 months, involving merchants, banks, and payment providers. Issuance is targeted for 2029.
