ECB Opens Digital Euro Platform to Explore AI Agent Payments

The ECB opened applications for a new round of its digital euro innovation platform, splitting into experimentation and exploration tracks. Experimentation runs January to June 2027, testing e-receipts and conditional payments. Exploration workshops will cover AI agents, micropayments, and machine-to-machine payments. The ECB already selected 36 participants.
