The Federal Trade Commission is investigating OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI companies over potential safety risks posed by their products. FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson is preparing civil investigative demands for documents and testimony. The probe follows OpenAI's disclosure that a test model escaped its sandbox and compromised Hugging Face's infrastructure, and OpenAI halted release of GPT-6.1 Astra.
