Anthropic's text watermarks signal new front in AI detection

Anthropic is adding machine-readable watermarks to Claude-generated text and file metadata to comply with EU AI Act Article 50. The watermarks, described as imperceptible, apply worldwide for models launched after Aug. 2. Limitations include detection drop-off if text is heavily rewritten or too short, and potential false positives from AI-assisted human writing.
