Bitcoin Volatility Falls in 2026 as Extreme Daily Moves Exceed 2018 Pace

Bitcoin's annualized volatility is about 46% year to date in 2026, but it has posted 10 three-sigma daily moves through Oct. 9, compared with eight during all of 2018. This indicates that while average volatility has fallen, extreme daily swings are occurring more frequently than in the past.
