Adapting to extreme heat takes more than changing the clock

Extreme heat is driving American schools, sports teams, and outdoor employers to shift work schedules to cooler hoursa, according to new recommendations from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Oregon's heat-illness prevention rule requires water and shade at 80°F, with mandatory cooldown breaks at 90°F. California's new heat action plan also expands cooling access and strengthens energy systems.
